PPTP Client Set Problems conneting to a VPN in SuSE 9.3
Hi I am using PPTP Client to connect to a VPN. I have followed the instruction for SuSE 9.2 as shown in http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-suse-92.phtml There are certain differences in setting up the firewall. So I used YAST to turn the firewall at boot time yet it seams that the firewall might be turning??? when I establish the PPTP tunnel. At the moment I can connect to VPN but I cannot ping anything and I get network unreachable. Any suggestions? Has anyone succesfully connected to a VPN? -H

I use OpenVPN between my notebook and home network. Works fine.
Seems like OpenVPN does not support connecting via PPTP. The VPN I am trying to connect to the one in the office and they are set up to use PPTP. -H On 9/8/05, James Knott <james.knott@rogers.com> wrote:

Quite so. However, you asked if anyone had used a VPN, not specifically PPTP. We have no way of knowing if PPTP was simply something you'd tried or was in fact a requirement.

Well... it is in my mystyped and mangled subject of the thread. But it worked out fine since I had a nice chat with my Sys Admin based on all the responses and would like to thank you all. Seems like they have a cisco hardware vpn. Although there is a client as mentioned before... he wants me to try to PPTP first. I have done so... and I connect but the network is not available. I think the problem has to do with the firewall. I turned it off at boot... but certain iptable errors occur when I open the tunnel. I wonder if there is some script that is doing somthing??? I say this since if I attempt use YAST to figure out if firewall was on or not and from ping taking extra long time without response... it went again to network not available. So... if anybody has experience using PPTP to connect to a Cisco VPN then I would appreaciate it. Maybe I should start a new thread with that title. have a nice day all -H
