X-terminal remote error
Hi I just installed a new SuSE 8.0. I had working remote X to my server, but with this new installation I get: jaska:/home/jaska # ssh -X root@hepe root@hepe's password: Last login: Thu Nov 21 21:32:20 2002 from jaska Have a lot of fun... fw:~ # konqueror X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. konqueror: Fatal IO error: client killed fw:~ # I have tried to search for the cause, but I'm not able to. It must be this new installation, because the prior one (also 8.0) did work. I have set the displaymanage_remote_access to yes in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, but that did not help. Jaska.

Are you root when you run this? If so, does root have rights to run X programs on the local X server? In other words, did you su to root or sux to root?
I have set the displaymanage_remote_access to yes in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, but that did not help.
That only controls kdm's XDMCP settings, not ssh's X tunneling. Anders
Hi I have tried both with my user-login (jaska) and as root, but the problem stays the same. I still get the error from ssh -X root@fw: fw:~ # konqueror X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. konqueror: Fatal IO error: client killed Jaska. and what happens if you, on your local machine, instead of running "ssh -X root@fw" run some local graphical program, such as xcalc from that command line? If that works, you could try, on the remote machine, rm /root/.Xauthority. Then exit from ssh, and try ssh:ing again. If there's a problem with the remote .Xauthority file that will recreate it, hopefully correct Anders
Hi Anders The .Xauthority on the remote side was the problem. I would have never found it on my own, thank You! I thought that it is "this end" that has the fault, because it is a new installation, and the server was never touched. But it was wrong thought.. I removed the .Xauthority file, and now it work perfectly! Thanx again jaska. On Friday 22 November 2002 15:46, Anders Johansson wrote:
