"Check the headers for your unsubscription address" I just sent the moron an email direct telling him exactly what to do to 'unsubscribe' since he obviously can't read.
Of course, most peeps don't have a clue what headers are or how to install them on a V-8 engine. -- Kai Ponte www.perfectreign.com Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. IMO, that's an indication that the unsubscribe process needs to be changed. It would appear obvious, based on the number of "unsub me!" mails this list gets, that the only people who actually know how to unsubscribe are the hoards who can't resist responding to each and every "unsub me!" post. -- ----- stephan@s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W. Amen! If someone has sampled this list and gotten in over their head, it's not surprising that they wouldn't know how to look at the headers. It would be *so easy* to include at the bottom of each post the sentences: To unsubscribe, send an empty email to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe. For more details, view the full headers of this message using the "View" option of your mailer.

Probably, since the average prole (for example, yours truly) probably suppresses display of headers. Real estate is too valuable to waste on endless "He sent to she and she sent to me" dreck.

Well if a decent mail program is used there is no problem at all reading and the supressing the headers ( The bits that HEAD the email that tell you where from when via ect ) for the numb nuts out there . KMail is one of the better mail clients maybe not quite the best YET but not far off sure beats the crap outta the other stuff i have tried then dumped apart from the Mail client in Seamonkey now theres pretty darn good as well Pete

This isn't about defining what mail client a person uses or should use. That is 100% *irrelevant*. The point is having a process which EVERYONE can actually follow.

Then keep on using it (as will i). But don't expect that everyone who wants to eventually unsubscribe to switch to KMail. Many readers are using Outlook to read their mail, like it or not, and they will continue to do so. And as much as i hate using Windows, i fully support them doing so because it *works for them*. Any unsubscribe process must be ignorant of what mailer is used, and should not be there to punish people who choose to use Outlook for mails. That's not to say that the mailing list admin(s) originally chose the headers-based process to punish all UIMCs (Users of Inferior Mail Clients). However, in practice this seems to be exactly what they have inadvertently done, and IMO The Process needs to be changed to make it more realistic (i.e., accessible to UIMCs and URMCs alike). :) -- ----- stephan@s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W. i like those answers, but i was thinking "Reasonable". Righteous is really good, though. That'd be a good name for a mail client, in fact. :)

Exactly so! Even the debian mailing list has an easier unsubscribe process. It's not hard. Cheers, Dave

Suggestion (to everyone): send all these ideas and comments to the list owner, you know, the guy at suse-linux-e-ownerATsuse.com? It gets very tiring to see all the same stuff, over and over and over and over, every time someone sends an errant unsubscribe plea to the list.

It hardly takes a moron to not know what a header is. As I just said on another list, for most people, a header is what a football player does when he hits a ball with his head. To many others, it is the top part of the front page of a news paper. To still others, it's just a word with no defined meaning. Kindly don't call people morons just because they can't quote RFC822 backwards. You will only set yourself up for many sarcastic replies the second you make the slightest mistake
