Re: [SLE] Adding a DVD Player to Commercial product
I know that this is the opposite of 'free', but linspire offers a dvd player for $10 on their site. It is a rip-off, but at least it is available. -Steven

It is $10 only for those people who pay $50 a year for Linspire's "Clink 'N Run" Gold service. Otherwise it is $40. Good luck getting it to run on a non-Debian distribution.

I wasn't talking about getting THAT dvd player on SuSE, I just mean the idea that even though it is not included, and you might have to pay a little, it is still available to the average user from the distributor.

Yeah, that would be nice. Here's the Linspire version: http://www.linspire.com/lindows_products_details.php?product_id=11804 I don't see why someone hasn't decided on this as a niche business model for the *nix community. /me runs off with an idea... -- kai - www.perfectreign.com

Kai. It looks like it is Linspires own software rather than a third party paid by Linspire. I could be wrong of course. It is certainly closed source - of course :-( But I agree, surely Linspire could easily do some ports to other distros and offer it for sale. Ok, it will make some people throw their arms in the air and scream blue murder while beating themselves with barbed sticks :-) But they don't have to buy it. It could be just another option and that's what Linux is about, options. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way.
