[SuSE Linux] Modem Conf. Zoom 2919
Hi, I just got a Zoom int. isa 56k dual model 2919 faxmodem. Before that I had a simple telepath 14.4k which used com1, irq4. I shut down my system took out the old modem card. I modified the jumpers on the new Zoom isa card as follows: 1) disable pnp via jumper 2) select com1 via jumper 3) select irq4 via jumper I thought it would be a simple swap, one modem for the other. My bios has PnP disabled by the way. I swapped my new zoom int. modem in. I booted the system...and...: wvdialconf tells me there is nothing there! when I look at proc/ioports I see that com1 and com1 addresses have been assigned to serial(auto). I'm using kernel 2.2.7. Any reason why when following the above procedure wvdialconf fails to even see anything on com1? Many Thanks, Sean _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sorry, no. com2 and com4 share irq 3 com1 and com3 share irq 4 Yes, I know, it IS confusing. However, most serial cards (including internal modems) accept other combinations (com ports can range to up to 8, on some bioses even up to 16 -- more often than not it is shaky software that tries to reinvent the wheel and thereby makes a mess of a well trimmed system 8( JV -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Yup, IRQ4 = com1, com3 IRQ3 = com2, com4 -- JLK Linux, because it's STABLE, the source code is included, the price is right. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Some older motherboards with built-in serial ports give strange interactions when a port is disabled and replaced with a modem. I found the safe method is to enable both com ports, com 1 & com 2, put your mouse on com 2, call your modem com 3 int 4, and yes disable pnp.

How about the IO address? Uwe

Should work. COM1 has a IRQ=4, 03F8 address, COM2 is IRQ3 and 02F8 address.
