Tbird 115 on 15.4 - Write Message - Menu Autohide only 1/2 Hidden - Grating appearance changes
All, Zypper up pulled in Thunderbird 115. It is horribly different from 102 and does not respect my color or theme choices that 102 did. Further, the interface is a bit buggy. The new-message window menu-autohide - doesn't completely hide the menu, you can see the bottom of all menu entries under the window titlebar: https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/8f0de87e7c53 What changed to radically to give tbird 115 such a different and unpleasant look? When I have tabs open in thunderbird, you can only see the active tab, all others are black-text on black-background ?? Is this libadwaita rearing its ugly head? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

On the upside, the server/folder list renders in a much more compact manner - though I'm not wild about the border-radius formed bubbles around the unread message count. Unbelievable. When I have this window focused, I can also see the other tabs open in the main tbird window (the inactive tab titles are in light text). But when I move focus to the tbird main window -- the tabs disappear again (the inactive tab titles go to black text on a black background). WTF? Seems there are more surprises to come in tbird 115... -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

I just updated my laptop to see it. I don't see anything "horrible" yet. There are too many things on the display, and the font is smaller to compensate. There is one bar at the top used for maximize, minimize buttons. Next is the menu Next are the tabs Then I have one bar titled "Inbox 8500 messages" and nothing more. Then the filter bar. That's a lot. Ah, ok, I can hide the filter bar, there is a button on "Inbox..." bar. There is a nuisance behavior that has gotten worse. The "pointer", the current message, goes to the top of the list on any action, instead of the bottom as would be logical. On the most recent message. It's been like this for ever, but now it is worse. I remembered that I had not yet put the date format right, so I found the instructions again and applied them. <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-date-time-formats-thunderbird#> I do not see how to change the font to bigger. It is set to "13", tried "14", does nothing. Restarted, nothing. Zoom works, though. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from openSUSE 15.5 (Laicolasse))

Block "immediate delete" (shift + delete) of a large number of messages does not clear the reader window below showing the headings of the selected messages. Sometimes it does, other times not. I just did a block delete of 306 messages (from a feed showing today's packages that were updated on Arch), and then reader window just continued to show the message titles for the selected messages. Other than nits like that, it sill looks the same. You can tell there was a big UI change between 102 - 115 that isn't all fully baked yet. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

That is not "horrible" :-)

I have a problem with Unified view. In this machine (Leap 11.4) the folders in the Unified view do not populate. Inbox is empty. In the laptop it works (Leap 15.5). So I worked around that using "favourites" instead, and "recent folders", which seems to be new. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.4 x86_64 at Telcontar)

I found out how to solve the empty Inbox in Unified Folders view. Right click on that Inbox, choose "properties". A dialog displays: "Edit saved search properties for inbox". There is a button for choosing what folders to display: click there and select all inboxes one by one. On another machine running 15.5, the folder was populated but one account was missing. So, there is some code that at some point populates the Unified Folders which sometimes fails, but at least we can edit it manually. I can live with that. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
