I've attempted to update my kde to kde3.2, which went sadly wrong I think, at least I ended up with a system that I could hardly use. Anyway, I couldn't find the kdenetwork3-mail-3.1.95 rpm. Have I missed something? Anyway, I tried to reset my desktop (go back to the earlier version of KDE). That has not worked either and I now thinking of doing a complete reinstall, just to get a useable desktop. Can someone tell me how to tweak KDE3.2 in order to get it working, with icons, panel etc. or how to get my system back to KDE3.1 without a complete reinstall? I would be most grateful. Thanks Eddie

or red carpet, which is even simpler to install and use

An even safer way is to wait another few weeks. My installation with apt was about 95% succesful. The other 5% was such a disaster that I reverted back to 3.1.5. And I'm still not there completely! I couldnt get Konqueror to work right, kmail was crashing frequently. Lost K3b entirely. Lost my setup for Opera. What worked, worked smoothly and looked good, if you like the XP washed out look, except for the kasbar thing which is still with me even with a reinstall of all of KDE. Don't like that little thing at all! Another 2cents for those collecting such things. richard

Well . . . not exactly. For the same reason you (Richard) mentioned (couldn't get my system back to its former state), I did reinstall SuSE overnight. My main reason for giving up on KDE 3.2 was that I could find kmail (kdenetwork3-mail-3.1.95.rpm). When I tried to restore my system, I couldn't find the 3.1.5 version, either. It seems like kmail or kdenetwork3-mail rpms have vanished from the face of the earth. I guess those who are using kde3.2 don't use kmail. Unfortunately for me, that is the program I use most, esp. for communicating with this list. Like you suggested Richard, I guess I'll come back in a few weeks. Thanks to all those who replied. Eddie

If you don't bother reading the replies you get, what's the point of sending questions?

KDE 3.1.5 is still here: ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.1.5/SuSE :-\ GJ

I guess I must have been tired when I first attempted. I installed all the relevant packages from a SuSE mirror site. Found kmail in the kdepim3 package. Took ages to configure the panel (kicker) but now everything is up and running, and I'm really pleased. Thanks again to all. Eddie
Hi all, I'm trying to create a rescue disk so that I can book to Suse 9.0. I use the rawwritewin.exe file provided by Suse, in conjunction with the 'rescuefloppy' file. But when I try to boot off the floppy my system doesn't recognize the disk and continually restarts. What am I doing wrong? thanks, Justin

Otherwise, use YaST to create the boot floppy.
Or from the command line, use the dd command. First, make sure you have a formatted floppy. And don't forget to also make the module disks. Ken
