Yes - you need to close wvdial and then open it up again; it will then re-read the configuration file and you'll get your extended timeout. Cheers Matthew Smith

I used to use Demon when I lived in the UK, so I can tell you that it's not them timing you out! Are you just using pppd on its own, or are you calling it through something like wvdial?
I use wvdial and used to have the same problems; changing /etc/ppp/options had no effect. I then found that there is a file, /etc/wvdial.conf, in which there was set a very short timeout. I bumped that up to a sensible figure, and now all is fine.
180 seconds to be precise, just changed it to an hour. Will I need to log out now for this to take effect?
