Re: [SLE] I must be braindead: how to load module in Suse - modprobe.conf ?
Hi,
unfortunately that doesn't work - I get error on modprobe keyword.
I'd kindly ask for short answers to get me going:
- what command should I put into modprobe.conf.local to :
- load module1,
- after loading module1, load module2 (post-install in previous
modules.conf)
- before removing module1, remove module2
Thanks,
regards,
Robert.

I'm reading man modprobe.conf and I must be braindead not to see and kindly ask for short explanation:
There is alias, install, options and remove commands. But what is command to load plain module without alias ? I've read it but couldn't find any info on how to load module....
Also what are counterparts for post-install and pre-remove from modules.conf ?
Regards,
Robert.

Have you su'ed to root before issuing the modprobe command? It will fail for the non-root user. Mike
Hi, Since entering a senior moment I've been unable to recall the key sequence to enter a scan code for an alternative character. Any help out there........

Just the opposite. That's the method you'd use to guarantee the module *doesn't* load

Ooops, I forgot to say it's upside down. Perfectly logical for all but the best informed. And they say legalese is tough to read! RA

I may not have got the point, but you have a categorized list of available modules in /lib/modules/<your-kernel-version>/kernel/ after you find the correct module, test it with modproble and then edit file /etc/sysconfig/kernel, variable MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT Every other atempt to fight against modprobe.conf, modules.conf, etc was futile (in my SuSE 9.0 - others distros worked fine)
