[S.u.S.E. Linux] linuxconf?
Hey again. I would like S.u.S.E. to integrate linuxconf into their future distributions, since it complements yast quite nicely and is available in both commandline, CLI and GUI form. Calling it from yast should be possible (preferably a specific part of it. Could be really cool. My main reason for this letter: It seems that suse-announce-e is rather, well, low on activity. Couldn't it be made so that new product announcements as well as new updates to older products and KDE (etc) is listed there with URLs and preferably a description. I cannot recall seeing a single letter in it? -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I am sure that the maintainersof SuSE have a better handle on what fits into the future of the distribution than we do as users. While I understand the spirit in which you make your suggestion it is arrogant to think that they haven't already considered or are considering anything you could suggest.

I would be a lot worse off if it wasn't for slashdot og freshmeat, for instance. Yes, they might be aware, but they may also be busy on other things and not have though about this. Still trying to be friendly...

" I am sure that is THIS list, right? suse-linux-e? I am mentioning that suse-announce-e is pretty dead an that it is a shame. I am doing it here because it's my belief that only suse should post to the announce-list. It's just a pitty they rarely do, ok?

I know, and I just checked the backlog of suse-announce-e. There is a total of one message: The announcement of Java WorkShop 2.0 for Linux. A few scripts could improve the usefulness of suse-announce-e a LOT! That's all I'm saying, if you'll let me!
as well as new updates to older products and KDE (etc)
Kde has mailing lists of their own. Kde's website can be found at <A HREF="http://www.kde.org"><A HREF="http://www.kde.org</A">http://www.kde.org</A</A>> I know, but I'm guessing there's a reason that S.u.S.E. makes binaries available at their own site under suse_update, even if it's only that they take the docs from the source and put them in /usr/doc/packages/.... . It would be nice if you didn't have to strafe around to see if anything new was there, which a better exploitation (in a good sense) of suse-announce-e would accomplish.
If I'm harsh above, I don't mean to be. I'm just trying to get my point across. Later, Martin Moeller. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Tolerated is the right word. As I read his response, I thought about what kind of kritter he could be :-( -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

My take on SuSe and Linux (and life in general) is that if you don't ask, it won't get any better. I was under the (possibly mistaken ?) impression that asking for enhancements was one of the functions that this mailing list served. Personally, I think that if I subscribed to Mr. Lankton's theory that the group who produces SuSE knew better than I what I wanted and needed, I'd be using M$ win95. Yes, you are rude, Mr Lankton, you also seem to be more than willing to settle for second best. I'd rather ask and be turned down by the publishers of Suse than to have bitched about it and never asked for what I wanted. Just my take on this thread. I agree that announce is low on activity, but that is GOOD for a person who doesn't have time to keep up with this list, [and before you've been on here very long you will realize it's a commitment]. So I agree with SuSE that there is a good separate purpose for each list. Besides, you won't miss anything while on this list any way, and if you doubt that, it isn't hard for people like you and me to subscribe to both lists. is it? No, and that is exactly what I'm doing. And even though I get more mail than I can easily cope with, I would however like for a mailing list I've subscribed to to occasionally post messages ;) - As I posted later, the online web-archive shows ONE message in suse-announce-e, the availability of JWS2.0 for Linux. My suggestion would probably give a few messages per week if implemented. That should be tolerable for most people, right? -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
