Sound card, Blaster Audigy SE - configuring for Suse 10.1
List members; I am a Linux beginner. Need help to configure Audigy SE sound card for Suse 10.1. I have a PC Chips K8 mother board (don't laugh, I will upgrade someday) with integrated sound which works fine for most things on this system, but I would like to run Audigy to make use of the midi sound fonts. I would like to set up to run which ever card I choose for the purpose, as outlined on the Alsa web site, but at the time I started this, I was unaware of the differences between Alsa' instructions and Suse's way of doing things. Can someone out there please walk me through the steps of setting this up in Suse? Help appreciated, --ED--

Ed, It's simply a matter of starting up YaST2 going to the Hardware module, then Sound. There it allows you to setup your sound card/s. Unless you really need it, I would disable the motherboard sound in the bios and only use the SB card for your sound. You'll find it works much better that way, plus the SB will give you superior sound. Welcome to Linux! I think you'll find it improves your overall computer experience. regards, Lee

The only comment I'll add to the above is that if you try (as I always do) to install the sound fonts from the CD which came with the card - forget it :-( . SUSE 10.1 does NOT recognise the CD when you insert it for Yast to read the CD. Buggered if I know why SUSE stopped recognising the CD. Same thing occurred in (?) v9.3 then got fixed in 10.0 but now back to normal in 10.1 :-( . Cheers. -- This computer is environment-friendly and is running on OpenSuSE 10.1
