When/How to update tumbleweed
For the longest time I was depending on https://review.tumbleweed.boombatower.com to figure out when it was safe to update tumbleweed and which release to update to. That site has not been updated due to an issue with the mailing list where the site got its information. So for people who use tumbleweed, how do you know when is a good time to update? What command do you use? I know there is snap and that I can roll back if something breaks, but obviously would rather not go through that. Thanks and Happy New Year!

update when you desire. updates (new versions of tumbleweed) would not be published if crippling problems were evident.

when a new version is published zypper -v ref ; zypper -v dup -d -l && zypper -v dup -l -y

I don't "roll back". I may boot an older kernel ... -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet oftc What sort of day was it? A day like all days, filled with those events that alter and illuminate our times...
The" zypper dup -y -l --allow-vendor-change" has been working so great on my three desktop laptops and two media stations that I have been running it via unattended cron job for years (even with wakeonlan and shutdown after execution). I never (knock on wood) ran into a problem, just sometimes I had to run zypper dup manually when it encountered unsolvable problems – then I had to update a larger batch of packages... length of list is a function of how long it took me to realize... I know what you're going to say. :-))) Oh, and I banned/blocked/locked "Packagekit" and "discover" as "Taboo never install" to stop Tumbleweed/KDE from tail-wagging nagging me "I have 668 updates, please click me" all the time. A simple "zypper al PackageKit discover" works for me (after zypper rm PackageKit discover). Althoug in both cases I never ran into problems, even with packman or VLC repos activated, I advise everyone to thoroughly check if this solution works for him and not use it on production servers. But, as I said #works4me. Am Donnerstag, 30. Dezember 2021, 17:55:20 CET schrieb Patrick Shanahan:
