[opensuse] How to upgrade kernel version
I have noticed on the lists mention of kernels at least as high as 4.2.0. I have been performing upgrades and my kernel is at 3.16.7-29. I have an odd graphics processor on a Nvidia laptop and it was suggested back in April on the Nouveau-Nvidia list that I should try version 4 of the kernel. I have been waiting but it has not arrived. Is there a reason open-SUSE is still using version 3 series kernels, or reason I should not upgrade? And is there document describing the procedure to obtain a newer kernel. Thanks, don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Apparently you are using openSUSE 13.2 or lower. Both openSUSE Tumbleweed and openSUSE Leap 42.1 use the 4.x kernel. -- fr.gr. member openSUSE Freek de Kruijf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'm using 13.1 and I have 4.3.0-1 That's because I'm using another repository to update my kernel sudo zypper lr -u | grep kernel 6 | Kernel_Stable | kernel_Stable | Yes | Yes | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard/ -- A: Yes. > Q: Are you sure? >> A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. >>> Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Remember that, unless you are using Tumbleweed, you don't get packages upgrades of anything, with a few exceptions like Mozilla. If you want to update something, you either change openSUSE version, or you add a repository that contains whatever you want. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Normally if you want to upgrade a particular installed package that's available in an optional repo, you can goto https://software.opensuse.org/search and have it installed via 1-click. Right now that page is broken, but the break has been reported. Such breakage usually doesn't take long to get fixed once reported, but given the current time.... -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
