May I just add that I have found SuSE's manuals to be the very best of any distro that I've tried, and well worth paying for. Even putting aside the issues you have -- quite validly -- raised above, having such fine printed documentation for an Open Source offering is something worthy of our financial support.

Scott, I assume you intended this for the list. I hate not having the automatic response to list available. I don't know if you were around when that was forced upon us by someone intent on disrupting this list. As you say, the documentation is very good. It took me a while to adjust my brain to using them. They take a different approach than I was used to. I am sorry to say I haven't had the time I would like to work with the 7.2 distribution. I do plan to come back to spending more time with the guts of the OS. I've been hacking JavaScript lately. (Don't laugh if you haven't tried it. It's not nearly as easy as I expected.) My intent is to develop the skills necessary for presenting complex information is a highly accessible form. We should try to keep this thread alive. If someone sees it go to sleep for a day, give it a kick. SuSE are too dignified to promote their own product on the list, but that doesn't mean we can't do it for them. -- Open Source Software depends on your support. I did indeed, and I hadn't noticed that I sent it privately. Thank you for posting it on my behalf. I'm not sure why that happened to SuSE's list. I'm on other lists where such things have never happened. I did get some links with some rather interesting pictures from e-mail spammed to the participants of the XEmacs list, but I've never seen the kind of attack that SuSE-e was subjected to. Anyway, the original topic was the importance of buying the distribution so that we ensure the continued development and improvement of the product. I've been hacking JavaScript of late, and I am beginning to realize the extent of the damage to the industry which the anticompetitive actions of one company have had. SuSE and Open Source Software in general are viable and real alternatives to the 'one company rules all' situation which would otherwise exist. If we all just put a bit back into the collective wealth of Open Source Software, the result will be superior to anything the one source supplier can produce.
