(I seem to remember the discussion earlier, but could not find it quickly in the archive). I just installed SuSE 8.2 on my laptop. I have both a built-in Ethernet port and a PCMCIA wireless. Somehow, the routing table is missing the default route when both interfaces are active. Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth1 /etc/sysconfig/network/routes 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 eth0 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 eth0 192.168.0.0 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 eth-pcmcia default 192.168.0.1 - - If I remove the wireless card, then the routing table returns to something normal. Rhe system is confused because of two interfaces on the same subnet.
