.png files (e.g., icons) won't display, crash Konqueror
Hi, everyone. Strange problem today. I'm sure there's a simple solution but it escapes me. All of a sudden I cannot view any of my .png files -- for example icons -- in my home directory. When I click on the files I get an error message that says: "Unable to load Netscape plugin for file:/home/gil/icons/<name of file.png>" And then up pops the error screen for the KDE Crash Handler and it says: "The application unknown (nspluginviewer) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)." At the moment the only way to view a .png file that is in my home directory is to open it using Kwickshow. Note that if I copy the .png file to my desktop it will open properly from the desktop. Please also note that .jpg, .gif, and .bmp files do open properly in the home directory. Any suggestions on how to fix this little problem? Thanks. :o) Gil
My apologies if I'm violating netiquette by reposting this inquiry, but I have
seen no replies over the four days since the original posting. I searched
various archives using "Netscape plugin" and a couple of other variants as the
search term, but did not find anything that helped.
Anyone have any ideas how to correct this?
Thanks again.
Gil

Just throwing out a bone here, it might be the fix (was for me on an nsplugin segfault problem regarding Flash objects). What color depth is your desktop set at? I had mine set to 15-bit (for speed reasons, old, slow, low-video-RAM laptop), and ANY site I hit that used nsplugin to call Flash's plugin segfaulted the browser. I set it to 16 or 24-bit, and it worked perfect after that. (Also, there was a new libpng update this past week on SuSE's update server -- supposed to fix a security issue, but probably wouldn't hurt trying that if you haven't updated it yet). Steve
In trying to speed my bootup times, I turned off susewatcher (exited, chose "do not start automatically" option) figuring I could just manually run the thing and re-check the "start automatically" option. Well, that option isn't availble. I can start it manually fine. /opt/kde3/share/autostart DOES have susewatcher.desktop still. What am I missing? Steve

Steve, thanks for reply. My color was/is set to 16bit. And I apparently already had the new libpng update. When I looked in Yast it said I had libpng V 1.2.5-182.7 (installed 8/5/04). Appreciate the suggestions. As you probably already saw, Thadeu pointed me to a fix in file associations. Thx again. Gil
Today the same happens with me. Then I gone to "Seetings" menu, "Configure Konqueror" submenu and select the "File Associations" option. Then I select the tree "image" and "png" type, select "Embedding" tab and after select "Use settings for 'image' groupe" I choose "KView Image Viewer (kviewviewer)" as my first choice on Services Preference Order. Now I can view png files on konqueror preview. Good luck Thadeu On Friday 06 August 2004 10:27, Gil Weber wrote:
