Greetings, all. I'm trying to install v7.2 via FTP, using my nearest FTP mirror. I boot from the boot floppy provided on the mirror; load the appropriate module for my NIC (I use cable 'net access, which appears to Linux as a LAN); choose the FTP install method; and enter my IP address, netmask (generic), and the IP address of the FTP mirror. However, the install program says that it can't find the mirror. I know the mirror's IP address is correct. I also downloaded the majority (I think) of the SuSE files on the mirror starting two levels above the RPMS directory, in hopes of installing from my hard disk. But the install program, when I direct it to the correct partition and directory, says it can't find the "image." Is it talking about an ISO image, or what? Any help in installing via FTP or HDD would be greatly appreciated, as there is no retailer local to me who sells SuSE.

Hmmm. At that point you can switch to another console and get a shell. Make sure you actually do have a network connection, can ping your gateway, etc. Also, I'm not sure what a 'generic' netmask is so you may want to make you actually using the correct one. Otherwise, all I can suggest is trying another mirror: see http://www.suse.com/us/support/download/ftp/int_mirrors.html for a list. -- -ckm
