This behavior is display chipset dependent. I have a pair of Dell Latitude laptops, one with the NeoMagic 128 and one with the NeoMagic 256. The 128 uses options in XF86Config, InternalDisplay and ExternalDisplay. One or both should be present. If both are present, the external monitor can only run at 60Hz. The 256 listens to the FN-F7 (I think) control key combo that works under windoze. If you have an ATI Rage 128 in your laptop, options are much greater, as there are 2 seperate RAMDACs (well, kinda. You don't need a RAMDAC for a panel...) You can run the system in double headed mode, panel and monitor, or make the panel and monitor look the same, or disable one or the other of them. I'm not sure how much of this functionality is broken out in XF86. ericb d> I have a Dell Lattitude Laptop dual booting 6.3 and Win98, it works fine d> with the LCD screen, but when in the docking station the screen goes blank d> when X starts.
