Hi All, A long time ago, there was a fix for installing SuSE 7.3 on an athlon machine. I've lost my archive of goodies, and can't find the info. I've got 8.0, but I wanted to install 7.3 on another drive for compiling purposes. I had installed 7.3 on an Athalon system with no problem. On 22 Jul 2002 at 17:49, Mike wrote:

Athlon's required a newer bootdisk then shipped with 7.0. The problem hasn't existed since 7.0. You should be fine with 7.3. I've had 7.1 and now 7.3 on my AMD Duron which is the same core as the Athlon and it works perfectly. On Mon, 2002-07-22 at 12:44, dep wrote:

Are you sure about this? 7.0 required a newer bootdisk to install on P4 processors which were new at the time and the installer didn't recognize the CPU, but I can't remember a similar issue for Athlons. Do you have a link with info about this? //Anders

7.0 worked out of the box with my athlon. The problem was in 6.2 bootdisk. However I recall something wrong with Athlon processors and AGP, but I cant recall it now. Praise

Well, that finally answers my question. For the life of me I thought it was athlons that had the problem. But it is a moot point anyway. The cause of the problem was a drive that is going south slowly. When first started it works fine. Then after about 10 minutes or so it just quits. Thanks for the info guys.. Same for me here, no problems at all with Atlon (XP) or Duron processors since SuSE 7.1 (8.0 is working perfectly at home on two machines : one Atlon XP 1500 with Asus mobo and one Duron 850 with MSI mobo... Francis

I guess I should have been more specific. I had it running on an athlon too. But this is a dual athlon, and when booting from the DVD, it hangs. Never even gets to the initial screen. I thought I remembered something about problems with certain configurations, but can't be sure.. I'll give it another go tomorrow.
