OpenSuse/Suse 10 on a Sun Fire X4100/4200
Sun certifies SLES9 on it, but that's a bit on the old side. Are there any known features that aren't supported? Has anyone done this? Any feedback on a possible load like this?
Why not run Solaris on it? --- Bruce Ferrell <bferrell@baywinds.org> wrote:

Because it's not as good as SUSE? Because SUSE is just as stable? Because the Solaris Kernel developers are sometimes jack asses? Lol.

Suse better be more stable :) And linux kernel devs aren't sometimes? How about I don't get nickle and dimed to death with linux... And it's faster?

I hear you bruce. I dont know about SuSE being faster than Solaris 10, unless you are using it for desktop purposes. I have found Solaris to be darn quick and beyond stable. --- Bruce Ferrell <bferrell@baywinds.org> wrote:

Is there a 64-bit x86-64 Solaris that runs on AMD64 machines? AFAIR the Sun Fire is such a machine...

Should work - but with SLES you get a longer lifetime (7 years instead of 2), maintenance, certifications etc. If you don't need those, you can try 10.0, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Yeah, certs and maintenance such aren't required. I was more interested in finding out if the box had any oddball hardware like an AIC7902 that only has closed source support for the host raid functionality.
Yes. You can find many current builds at opensolaris.org. --- Bruce Ferrell <bferrell@baywinds.org> wrote:
