Anyone have any experience with this Palm Pilot and Suse 8 / JPilot? Is it worth trying, or should I look for a Linux-based PDA like the much more expensive Zaurus? Thanks in advance. Nick

I'm using the M505 (soon to be reborn as a Sony CLIE NR70V I hope - Fathers' Day this Sunday !!!) and it appears to work OK. I'm looking at getting it to sync with Evolution tonight.... The Zauras is crap - plastic, cheaply made and a pain to operate
I dreamt about my Zaurus. I was impressed when I got it. I was disappointed when trying to operate it under Windows or Linux. I am feeling stupid with it. I must confess that I still use my M500, reading news with Avant-Go is great ... This being said, maybe one day the Zaurus will be fully operational. I have gathered loads of technical stuff about how to make it work ... including recompiling Suse 8.0 kernel to amend USB driver ... :-( Good luck for Fathers' Day !!

Don't get me wrong - the concept of the Zaurus is great - but when I furst held one it FELT like cheap plastic (unlike the M505) - in fact, my Mrs dropped the stylus on the floor and it snapped in two ! And they don't provide a way of syncing with Linux, only Windows... Come on, it's a Linux PDA !!! Time will tell - if Sharp listen to the email they've been sent, the Zaurus MkII should be good Jon
Hi! Don't get me wrong too: I found the Zaurus look 'n feel' quite fantastic! That's why I'm so frustrated not to be able to synch it and eager to receive 'step-by-step' full working instrutions to synch it properly. Any place where I could by a Zaurus stylus? Mine is broken too ... :-)

Have you synced it with anything yet or seen if SuSE 8 will even speak with it? Thanks, nick

I have to disagree that the zaurus is crap. I was a Palm user for 5 years and while Palms are great, they are in a different class than the zaurus. I had no problems syncing my Palm to Jpilot, that was with Palm OS 3.x. I did have problems with a recent Sony Clie and Palm OS 4.x syncing with SuSE 8. It took some work, but my zaurus is syncing with the Qtopia desktop on SuSE 8 over the USB-ethernet connection. I also just picked up a Linksys WFC12 wireless CF card and can now roam around and web surf/e-mail from the zaurus. The OpenSSH port for the zaurus works great (client and server) so I can remotely control all my machines from the Z. The zaurus has some bugs, but it is a nice little machine and there are already hundreds of apps available for it (zauruszone.com). It took me about 3 days to convert all my Palm data over to zaurus format. If you don't want to do any tinkering, you may be happier waiting for the next generation of zaurus. If you put a little effort into it, though, the zaurus is the most powerful PDA you can buy today (IMO). Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Right behind you, I see the millions Got spam? SO are you saying that the 105 won't properly sync? The cost ($99) sounds good to me if I can make it work with Suse, and frankly I don't need all the extra features of the Zaurus - I'm reallly looking for something to "turn it on and it goes" rather than getting myself into a long process of posting here for help with a PA- and then taking three days to port over my existing Palm info (which has dumped into evolution quite nicely!). I don't know about the m105. Palm syncing worked for me with a Palm V and a Visor Prism. It did not work with a Sony Clie. The Sony had the new Palm OS 4.x which may have been the difference. Best Regards, Keith
Thanks, Keith, The m105 seems to have OS 3.5. Hopefully it won't be $99 down the toilet! Nick On Thursday 29 August 2002 19:27, Keith Winston wrote:

Apparently Evolution will sync with it, but I can't find the pilot software for Linux
Hello, Sorry maybe for simple question. How can write into faile output of command. I know command >, but in my case it doesn't help. Maybe the proble is that command requires input ?
The authenticity of host '192.168.202.12 (192.168.202.12)' can't be established. RSA1 key fingerprint is 6f:e5:36:a6:67:09:e6:37:3f:80:d9:7a:dc:2d:7d:5b. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?
command example: ssh -v -v -v admin@host > file.txt Result: All results are on screen and file.txt is epmty. I can view on screen only last debuging info. Thanks, Kestas
In Bourne derived shells:
redirects standard output 2> redirects standard error. ls -alg > file 2>&1 This redirects both standard output and standard error to a file. Using a double angle bracket (>>) appends to that file.
