I have just finished compiling a program as root. When I logon as a user I can no longer open XWindows. I've atached the entire startx.log file to this message, but I think htat the applicable part is: giving up. xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error. I'm not a hardware person and will really appreciate some help in restoring my sustem as a user, rather than root. Thanks in advance. -- Stephen P. I think it has something to do with /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xserverrc: cannot create temp file for here document: Permission denied I don't even have that file. I guess it says what server must be run and what the options of the server are. Is the file readable? You might also want to check where it wants to create the "temp file for here document" and if that directory is writable for you. hth,
