Replacement for KTrafficAnalyzer?
Hello, I was using KTrafficAnalyzer https://sourceforge.net/projects/ktrafficanalyze/ for quite a long time to get simple information about traffic. Now this is quite old and now it is missing as official package in OpenSuSE Leap 15.2 . Which official rpm can I take as replacement? It should be as simple as KTrafficAnalyzer, no sniffer, no Nagios, no rrdtool and alike, also no commandline tool. If I have to compile from source it is also ok (KTrafficAnalyzer is compilable but then fails to run). Thanks in advance Markus

There was "ntop", but I haven't used it in a long time. It creates a web page to which you connect with a browser to obtain information. Seems to live in repository "server:monitoring" -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)

ntop is running in a browser, is there any alternative with standalone graphical interface as simple as KTrafficAnalyzer? Thx

Er... no, not exactly. ntop runs on its own, it is a daemon. It uses a web browser for display, only when you ask for display. You close the web browser, it continues collecting data for weeks. It does not analyze conversations, as ethereal does. In text mode, there is "iptraf-ng". Also iftop. In my notes I have: mtr, mtr-gdk a network diagnostic tool nc ? nethogs NetHogs is a small 'net top' tool. Instead of breaking the traffic down per protocol or per subnet, like most tools do, it groups bandwidth by process. NetHogs does not rely on a special kernel module to be loaded. If there's suddenly a lot of network traffic, you can fire up NetHogs and immediately see which PID is causing this. This makes it easy to indentify programs that have gone wild and are suddenly taking up your bandwidth. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)

https://software.opensuse.org/package/kde3-ktrafficanalyzer indeed seems to end with KDE3... What about https://www.wireshark.org/ ? Well... openSUSE does have the best KDE3 on the planet... and it will install alongside any other desktop :) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Wireshark is more a sniffer (I know that one can also display traffic) but I only need a simple traffic monitor. As simple as KTrafficAnalyzer. ;-) There is a repo for Leap 15.2 from /Wolfgang Bauer/ (*wolfi323*) <https://forums.opensuse.org/member.php/40214-wolfi323> Did anybody try this? https://software.opensuse.org/package/KTrafficAnalyzer https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home%3Awolfi323%3Abranches%3AKDE%3AF... Thx in advance

If it's bits in and bits out you need to see you could always use gkrellm. https://software.opensuse.org/package/gkrellm http://gkrellm.srcbox.net/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GKrellM -- /bengan
