[opensuse] [bug] GTK+ file selector freeze - [bug] Firefox spellchecking in French environment
I am sorry to send bug reports on this mailing-list instead of using Novell Bugzilla, but the latter requires creating an account and leaving personal data that I am reluctant to give. Product: openSUSE 10.2 Severity: major Reproducible: always Summary: GTK+ file selectory freezes when running an application with an user that does not own the current GNOME session Details: Steps to reproduce the bug: 1. Log in with a GNOME session (only GNOME is affected) 2. Open a GTK+ application as another user (for instance open "gedit" as root) 3. Open the GTK+ file selector ("File->Open" or "File->Save as...") 4. The application will freeze then. Product: openSUSE 10.2 Severity: minor Reproducible: always Summary: Mozilla Firefox uses an English dictionary to check spelling in a French environment Details: This is a small annoyance: even in a French environment Mozilla Firefox uses an English dictionary to check spelling in the text areas. It probably affects all non-English environments. Possible solutions: either use an appropriate dictionary or disable spelling. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Why are you reluctant to give your email address? You have provided it to the entire world in the post you made. Make up the rest of the information, if you are so inclined, and set up a gmail account to use only for bugzilla (and what-ever). In order to create a Novell account one has to leave his address and also telephone number; I can't see how this can help bug report, and so I will *not* give that kind of information. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Then don't. Put <anything> there. Then your report will be utterly ignored. No one at suse will see it, and if they do see it, they will not acat until someone does report it in bugzilla. Sad but true: no way to report by email. However, Patrick advice is good: enter false private information. Like "bussiness: not your bussiness". "Phone: 555 1234" My reasons I had time ago for using email were different: no cheap internet access to spend time clicking. Now I can. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Oh, well, I was expecting this. E-mail is not the best tool for bug tracking after all.
However, Patrick advice is good: enter false private information. Like "bussiness: not your bussiness". "Phone: 555 1234"
I could. But I will not, because in my opinion giving false information would be like using a software without agreeing with the EULA. I try to respect as much as possible the author's wishes, and in that case false information would be against it (otherwise the fields would not have been marked as required). I hope you can understand my point of view. I will just have to wait for somebody else to run into this problem and submit a bug report. Meanwhile I will tell my colleagues to run "su -c kate" instead of "su -c gedit", or start learning vim. Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

In my opinion, you're overreacting. What negative consequence do you think might ensue from you disclosing a simple bit of contact information to Novell? Did you read their privacy policy and conclude that it produced some kind of risk of exposure?

That's not very community-minded...
Thanks.

Christophe, I just ran across this thread, because I'm having some problems with the gtk+ file widget as well. I think it's sad that in the whole thread, nobody actually discussed the issue you posted :( I'm in touch with a gtk programmer to try to track it down. AFAIK, this problem does not exist on all systems, so it would be helpful to establish exactly what circumstances are necessary for it to occur. You say it only happens with a gnome session, which is what I run. Do you mean that it doesn't occur in a KDE session? (not that I know exactly what difference that makes to the environment that a running application sees) You say to open as another user, for example root. Do you see the problem with any user other than root? If I 'su' and run gedit, I see the problem you describe. If I 'su - anotheruser' and run gedit, it works normally. You say you're running 10.2 but didn't say 32-bit or 64-bit? Finally, in a message I sent to the list <http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2007-07/msg00316.html>, I gave a test C program. I wonder if you'd mind running it to confirm the symptoms? Cheers, Dave -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Then, that would be the expected behaviour, I think. Gnome makes use of some environment variables, and when you "su" they are not updated to those of the new user, whereas when you "su -" they are. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
