You can use either INDEX.gz or ARCHIVES.gz and then look up the differences in at least versions. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Yes i can do that, is not exactly press friendly, but i supposed SUSE don't want publicity before the final release. Thanks, maybe tomorrow i have a little more time to make the note, it seen imposible by know. -- Marcel Mourguiart

I meant http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=suse There you will find version information for most important packages. From SuSE 5.2 up to SUSE 10.1-rc1 and also SUSE factory. Dani

Rather strange that this information is not available on openSUSE. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Sie ist das Kostbarste, was wir haben, denn es ist unwiederbringliche Lebenszeit. Leben ist aber mehr als Werk und Arbeit, und das Sein wichtiger als das Tun - Johannes Müller-Elmau

Dunno what is your personal definition of "most important packages" but http://en.opensuse.org/Product_Highlights Bye, Steve

For me that is mutt, slrn and windowmaker. ;-) You must admid that that is an extremely small amount of programs, compared to what will really be available. A list with all would be nice. If somebody could edit the following line: # zgrep -A 1 "Name :" ARCHIVES.gz |awk '{print $4}' Just edit it in such a way that the outcome is: SDL 1.2.9 unzip 5.52 zisofs-tools 1.0.6 jack 0.100.0 <snip> instead of what it is now: SDL 1.2.9 unzip 5.52 zisofs-tools 1.0.6 jack 0.100.0 <snip> Or do it with: zgrep -A 4 "Name :" ARCHIVES.gz | \ grep -Ev 'Install date:|Release :' |awk '{print $4}' SDL 1.2.9 System/Libraries unzip 5.52 Productivity/Archiving/Compression zisofs-tools 1.0.6 System/Filesystems jack 0.100.0 System/Sound I am sure it is possible. I just don;t know how to get to the correct format. With the second sorting should not be an issue. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. I can't get this in a workable output. The problem starts with: zgrep -A 1 ".rpm: *Name*:" ARCHIVES.gz That does not produce any serious output. Well, no output at all. Replacing that with zgrep -A 1 "Name :" ARCHIVES.gz it works. All on one line: zgrep -A 4 "Name :" ARCHIVES.gz | grep -Ev 'Install date:|Release :' |awk '{print $4}' | while read name; do read version; read group ; read blank ;printf "%-25s %-35s %s \n" "$name" "$group" "$version" ; done| sort -k 2|less Thanks for the pointer anyway. For those who are interested, you can make the 25 and 35 larger or smaller, according to the needs and possabilities of your screen. It should not be too hard to put this in a script and make a website out of it. See what I can produce. Don't hold your breath though. :-) houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Also a pity they name a server directly and not use download.opensuse.org. Somebody who can mail them and ask to repair? My German is not that good. :-/ houghi -- Nutze die Zeit.
