Hello all ! I just installed OpenSUSE on my system and I really like it. However I am facing some graphics issues. my screen seems to flicker all the time . It gets worse when I try to access internet using browser. My video card is Trident TGUI 9660. I have been wanting to replace the card but before I wanted to make sure if anyone had this problem before? i would appreciate any pointers ! Nikhil

Nikhil This sounds as if you have the resolution set in an interlace mode. You might want to check your frequencies or drop it down a bit to eliminate this problem. It really has nothing to do with SuSE, but rather the settings for the card & monitor. This was done either by the initial selection for graphics or something you set for graphics afterwards. regards, Lee --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

First pointer is to look in manual. Any of the following is the manual for Trident driver: http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.0/trident.4.html or http://www.math.ucla.edu/computing/docindex/xorg-x11-man-man-1826.html or (in the Konqueror Location input field) man:trident # this may have strange '34' character instead of " . or in console, type: man 4 trident they should be the same text. The section CONFIGURATION DETAILS has listed quite a few options I would try to add, or change if they exist, the following: Option "SWCursor" "boolean" Enable or disable the SW cursor. Default: off. I would set it to "on" (or "yes") Option "NoAccel" "boolean" Disable or enable acceleration. Default: acceleration is enabled. I would set it to "on" (or "yes") It can be that you don't need both options enabled, so try them one at the time. The reason is that they slow down graphics, so lesser of them you have it is better. I had one Trident card that needed SWCursor="on" (or "yes") to function properly. Slowdown was very small. For that card NoAccel made flickering lesser present, but didn't removed it completely. The Options you can add or edit in /etc/X11/xorg.conf section that looks something like this: Section "Device" BoardName "TGUI 9660" BusID "0:6:0" #This might be different Driver "trident" Identifier "Device[0]" VendorName "Trident" Option "" EndSection I added one empty Option line to mark where it should go. For editing configuration files I use program mc "Midnight Commader", that is not installed in recent versions by default. -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
