[opensuse] Goggle Chrome - Howto UNSET it as default browser??
Guys, There is some questionable stuff in chrome. One is once you click "what looks like it could be a drop-down list" to see what your choices are for the default browser setting --> You have actually just set chrome as your default browser. How do I UNSET it as my default browser. In FF I tell it to check and see if it is the default and it says FF IS the default browser, but when I click on some QT4 widget, I get chrome and not FF. What gives? Thanks. Other than that, it runs fine... just some sneeky stuff under the hood I'm not sure I'm all that comfortable with... -- David C. Under KDE this only works with Firefox if the KDE integration is active (what should be the default as long as everything needed is installed). Do you see kmozillahelper running when Firefox is on? Ahhh, sorry. So everything works as expected which means Firefox cannot set itself as default browser on KDE3. It only sets it in GConf for you which obviously has no effect for KDE applications (it has for apps like Thunderbird though). Exactly! That gave rise to some bizarre behavior. For example clicking a URL in the qt4 app keepassx (recommended password vault to everyone), launched chromium when the default browser was set to chromium in kde, but links in thunderbird continued to launch in firefox. Resetting the kde control center default back to firefox fixed the qt4 app issue. Somewhat dubious that chromium is smart enough to set itself as default for the desktop, but not smart enough to allow you to 'unset' it from within it's preferences... -- David C. Actually, Chrome or other browser doesn't honour it. It's a desktop function, which selects the default app. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

With every browser I've used, there is a means to make it the default. So, if you want, for example, Firefox to be default, you'd do that within Firefox. The alternative is "Default Applications" within your Personal Settings (assuming KDE). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Did you install "Chrome" from Google? Or "Chromium" from the distro? I have Chromium here and there's a "wrench" icon, near the top right, which brings up settings. I wonder if that can't be controlled by _not_ connecting to a gmail account. I also found that chromium seems to be built on a newer less stable version of chrome.
