Hmm, the OP is using openSUSE 11.2 and the update from Thunderbird 3.0b4 to 3.0 is not a major version change IMHO. The fact that Thunderbird 3 is shipped in openSUSE 11.2 is a different but the right thing (we ship latest software usually, it's just that it's very recent and addons might not be available yet). I agree that there is a bug somewhere as it should be possible to block a package from updates in zypper and yast if there is none working already.
