[opensuse] A volume "cruise-control" for VLC?
I use vlc to watch TV. As everybody knows, the TV stations broacast commercials (ads in America terms) which are always some % louder than the program being broadcast - ans which is damn annoying :-( . Does anyone know of an application which would keep the loudest sound level set to comfortably listen to a program to apply to commercials? Something like a "cruise-control" on a car which keeps the car running along at a preset speed? Any ideas anyone? I have seen on on MCM Electroics a device which installs in the audio flow and lowers the level on loud sounds. Bob R -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for your response Robert and I'll check this device out. But I *think* I have found what I was looking for in VLC itself. I was fooling around today in vlc's Effects and Filters and found that apart from the Graphics Equaliser there is also something called Compressor. So I played around with this not knowing what it is supposed to do but found that *appeared* to suppress the overly loud commercials and kept their audio level at a very reasonable compared to what a program had. I'll try it out again tomorrow and see whether it was my imagination or this Compressor actually is doing what I think it is doing.
