That is the whole point. suse and alsa has a bug in it and if you delete this asound.conf file like some people did you cannot regenerate it. I had made a backup copy but I won't post it because it doesn't help in the least. I spend days on this single problem and it is still a fact that suse and alsa is fucked when you regard this mixer problem. I gave up on this for now because it gave me huge headaches and its upsetting SuSE ignores this apparent bug. I don't expect it to be fixed in the next release. mk

You're really going to need an /etc/asound.conf if you want to hear
Someone please post that one! Or is it that long?!
O
It's not long, it's simply hardware dependent. Use 'alsactl' to create your /etc/asound.conf. Of course, alsa must be configured correctly to begin with, that's the tricky part. ;)
If you have SuSE's RPMs installed, use 'alsaconf' to configure your sound card.

I would suggest logging in as root and running YaST2 ..then launching the sound configuration module. This should do what you want it to do. It will check for configuration files and what soundcards your using and generate the files you need...and YES 7.1 is awesome and getting better. ;) * Purple Shirt (purpleshirt@hotmail.com) [010120 11:13]: =>That is the whole point. suse and alsa has a bug in it and if you delete =>this asound.conf file like some people did you cannot regenerate it. => =>I had made a backup copy but I won't post it because it doesn't help in the =>least. Will SuSE 7.1 install the 2.4 kernel by default. Also will 7.1 have better support for scanners? I really would like to get an HP scanner for my SuSE linux box. -- Cheers, Jonathan
