AFAIK, the 'new' WP8, updated to run on current distributions, is only for sale in North America at the moment. So how did you obtain it?

Dave has a patriot.net email address and he connects from comcast in (I think) Maryland. Why would you think he was not in North America?

Date: Sat, 01 May 2004 18:46:31 +0200 '+0200' would indicate that he lives in the same timezone as you (and I) do. *That* made me think he was not in North America. BTW, I found an update on the WP8 news already. Taken from the WP8 for Linux newsgroup (btw, note the '-0400' in the date) From: "Leon A. Goldstein" <metapsych@earthlink.net> Date: Thu, 29 Apr 2004 20:08:56 -0400 Here is where you can order the "new" WP8 in Europe: http://shop.mensys.nl/cgi-bin/db2www/MNS_art2.d2w/report?artname=&catname=LINUXWP8 The description at this website (in English) at present implies they are selling the old download version, but it is, according to the poster (who ordered and received a copy), the full WP8 version previously described. For WP8 users who need German, Italian, Nederlands, or Spanish languages, which are not included in the new Corel WP8/Linux release, please read my Linux Journal article for instructions how to install the language modules, and a source for downloading them. http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=7475&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

Does anybody reading this know if the "new" WP8 is different from what was available (and I bought) about 3 or 4 years ago. and if so, how? I was not particularly happy with the old version, particularly the fonts. I can probably find the disk, somewhere. Also, does anybody know, if it turns out the "new" version is new and improved, whether you can upgrade, by providing the old serial number, or if you have to start over. --doug

This version wants it's own serial number and it is a new product from what I can tell. Fonts look nice and all the features you would expect to see are there. In a way it's much like the versions available in the early 90s as you have a draw function that puts you in an early version of the DrawPerfect program, similary with the SS but all-in-all I really like it. It has way more power than either word or writer and a much cleanrer interface. Hope this helps, dave

I've got WP8 from an old (Mandrake 7.2) dist running just fine on SuSE 9.0. I'm not running kernel2.6 or multiple processors, just an athlon. As far as I know this (download) version is still available from some of the cheepbyte kind of distributors for about $3 us. I was also able to install an old download version of photopaint w/out receiving any errors but never was able to get it to fire up.
