Flat-panel displays with SuSE 8
Any successes, failures, useful tips from people who have used flat-panel displays with SuSE 8? Any brands/models to avoid? They're still too expensive, but my resistance is fading... :-) and I'd like to avoid a costly mistake. Thank you. I have quite a few machines running with 15" and 17" DELL flat panels. Great. We did a comparison on the 15" for the labs. We had sent over DELL, HP, Compaq and IBM. HP were by far the best panels. They had the best refresh vs lum vs contrast. Dell had the most attractive pricetag to us ( even $1 makes a difference if your'e buying 100+ machines :) But I'll recommend both. Also, DELL has this really awesome 22" FPD *DROOL* ;-)

Drool more, then go out and buy one ;) They are all built to the same specs more or less. Don't go for the IBM tho... it doesn't age well, and it looks like a cow..
Thank you.

i recently got a ViewSonic VA800. works perfectly with 8.0. the only downside was that the software that supports the pivot feature of the monitor is windows only. o well.

avoid sony. they're over-priced and not even that good. xiaolei
Could you describe the pivot feature please? PeterB On Friday 28 June 2002 10:06, propheci wrote:

the monitor comes in the usual landscape position (i.e. the longer side is at the bottom). but you can rotate the entire panel 90 degrees so it goes in the portrait position (i.e. the monitor is now long inside of wide). without the software, when you rotate to portrait view, you'll just see everything sideways. the mode is pretty cool when you're reading a lot and you want to scroll less.

A number of the LCD panels can be rotated between landscape and portrait. In the windows version, the screen layout also switches when you rotate it, so you can work on documents vertically, and pictures horizontally. -- Lester Caine ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services
