Dear Howard..

I used XF86config to set up my svga XServer, and the server seems to run OK, as does fvwm2 and fvwm95. However, when I inspect the server log message, I find two puzzling items:
Item 1. What does this mean (line breaks are arbitrary)? How can I prevent it? Should I even be concerned? If I disable the xkb option I can't use e.g. my backspace key any longer.
System: `/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/xkbcomp -w 1-R/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb -xkm -m us -em1 "The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports: " -emp "> " -eml "Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server" keymap/xfree86 /var/tmp/xfree86.xkm' tail: no process killed
this "bug" is known..I attach a file from our SDB to the end of the mail..;)
Item 2. The XServer reports that I have specified a 3 button mouse. This is wrong--I specified a Microsoft 2-button mouse, which is what I have.
Then you need to setup X correctly..obviously you have installed a three button mouse..
Well, I'm not sure thsi helps. My X86Config file lists a 2-button MS mouse. So what's to reconfig?
Xkeyboard Compiler (xkbcomp) announces an error
Symptom:
After having installed a new X server (e.g. xsvga.rpm von <A HREF="ftp://ftp.suse.com"><A HREF="ftp://ftp.suse.com</A">ftp://ftp.suse.com) you have configured your keyboard. Then you start X and get an error message like:
Error: Cannot open "/var/X11R6/xkb/compiled/server-0.xkm"
Cause:
The directory /var/X11R6/xkb/compiled is packed in xf86.rpm which you haven't updated. The X keyboard compiler resists that this directory exists even if it's empty. That's why you get this error message.
Solution:
If this directory doesn't exist you need to create it. This has to be done as user root:
mkdir -p /var/X11R6/xkb/compiled
This directory already exists (and is empty). Any other ideas? Anyone? Howard Arons -- Powered by SuSE Linux 5.2 -- kernel 2.0.33 Communications by Netscape 4.0 -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
