I've managed to get Synaptic to download all of the necessary files to upgrade to Gnome 2.6, but when it goes to install them, it has the little window with the bars going back and forth for about 5 seconds and then it just stops. No error message or anything. When I go to close out I get a message that says that "There are still marked changes that have not been applied. They will get lost if you choose to quit 'Synaptic'." Do I have my settings wrong or something? I thought I had it set to download and apply the packages...

Try running apt from the command line instead of synaptic. It'll probably tell you that it can't install the packages you selected because they aren't signed (at least that's what was happening when I had this problem). If you go into /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/gpg-checker.conf you can turn off the signature checking and that might fix synaptic (it will take care of apt not being able to install due to the lack of signatures), but I don't know for sure. -- Mark McKibben http://www.vision-at-work.org/~manzabar/ "We are bits of stellar matter that got cold by accident, bits of a star gone wrong." - Sir Arthur Eddington
