[opensuse] Microsoft TTF fonts and 11.1
Hi, Just to add to the previous thread regarding Microsoft fonts, I have just now approved the "pullin-msttf-fonts" update which brings the "fetchmsttfonts" script that pulls in the redistributable TTFs. You need to select this optional update in your updater (YOU, update applet) to install it. With zypper use: "zypper in fetchmsttfonts". Yes, I saw it yesterday. My first reaction when doing an update of all packages was, hey, that's funny, I know that new package name, wasn't it discussed on the list the other day? No guess. You have i845G video. 845 was a big problem in 11.1 development. I have 845G on both a Dell gx260 and a D845GLVA. The Dell was a bigger problem. How is it automatically selected? My tests show: It is not in the Update applets and YOU, you need to specifically select it there. And if you run "zypper up", it will just upgrade the empty(!) pullin-msttf-fonts package, but not install fetchmsttfonts. => So unless "rpm -q fetchmsttfonts" has results, they did not get it at all. => It is not "by default". Also, it installs freely available Microsoft things which have been clarified by our legal team. And it downloads them from Sourceforge btw. It was installed by YOU. Some complained that after installing the nvidia driver update, the fonts appeared on their system. We thought that would be nvidia's fault; but then another one complained of the same, without the nvidia propietary driver. This chap did not accept the font update. I can not duplicate what they say.

I know, I have the fonts installed in 11.0 (but not in my 11.1 test partition), so I don't have problems with that. On my system, fetchmsttfonts was installed when I ran my daily 'zypper up -t package'. I can count the number of times I've opened up YOU on one hand and I haven't so much as looked at it in sometime. I definitely never selected fetchmsttfonts for installation, though I don't have a problem with it being installed. There must be something that installs it automatically on some systems and not on others. I do have a number of third party repos enabled, so maybe some package in one of them is pulling it in. Also, I'm using the official fglrx driver, not nvidia. Nkoli -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, my 11.1 doesn't have it installed: NOT_nimrodel:~ # rpm -q fetchmsttfonts package fetchmsttfonts is not installed I fully understand that if I had it installed, YOU would update it. AFAIK, these people claim they did not have it installed; the problem is that the people complaining about this, do so after running YOU and installing or reinstalling it, and thus, too late to do checks, and thus, I can not verify this behaviour.
