Epson Perfection 636U?
Hi! Can anyone tell me the steps that they took to get an Epson Perfection 636U up and running on SuSE 7.0? Failing that can someone tell me which backport was used in 7.0? I know that 6.4 used the 2.3.47 backport and that it posed problems for Epson scanners ( http://www.freecolormanagement.com/sane/usb_scanner.html ). I have been unable to discover which backport was used for 7.0. After a fair amount of struggle I have yet to get SANE to see my Epson Perfection 636U. My current pet theory is to suspect the usb backport patched into the stock 7.0 kernel has problems with epson scanners. I have compiled from source the 1.04 version of sane with the 20001225 epson backend which is documented as being a working configuration on the SANE site as well as the Epson backend site. I have added the scanner module with appropiate vendor IDs, created the needed devices, and modified the configuration file under sane.d as directed but still no joy. Suggestion gladly accepted. Have any people problem installing in suse 6.4 a Voodoo 3 3000PCI using XFree or SaX? Thanks for any answer, Ben Santos. ------------------------------------------->
Hi! I tried tu use SaX and XFree to configure my card, but the chipset is not recognized, i use the servers Banshee and Rush without results. The memory of this card not is sdram, and ramdac is 350. Actually i use the server SVGA and not have 3D Acceleration, and i can't use the visualizations of the xmms, and Pingus not run.
Thanks,

Which version of X-Windows do you use?????(XFree3.3.6, XFree4.0, XFree4.0.1 OR XFree4.0.2) I have it running on XFree3.3.6 with Voodoo3 2000 PCI and the Voodoo Banshe AGP. And they run on the same XFree Config file....... Santos V Benjamin A wrote:

I think the device name changes to something like /dev/sg0 when you use the scsi-emulation module. It is a CD-RW correct? If it's not then I don't think there is any reason to use the scsi-emulation module. -- Mark Hounschell markh@compro.net

/dev/hdb is your CD-ROM drive. Your CD-R drive is either /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd. I will assume that your CD-R drive is /dev/hdc. The best way to set the drive up is to do this: 1. When your computer boots up and shows the 'LILO:' prompt, type 'linux hdc=ide-scsi'. 2. With a disk in the CD-R, try the command 'mount /dev/scd0 /mnt'. This will mount the disk under /mnt and you should be able to see the contents. If this works, then you can make this permanent by doing the following: Edit /etc/lilo.conf and find the section for the kernel image you're using and add the line 'append="hdc=ide-scsi"'. You can now edit /etc/fstab to include the line: /dev/scd0 /mnt iso9660 ro,noauto, user 0 0 You should change the '/mnt' part to wherever you want your CD-R to be mounted. Then you can mount the CD-R with a simple 'mount /mnt'.

You can't mount the zip drive unless there is a disk in it. If you always have a zip disk in the drive when you start Linux, then you can mount it when you start Linux. I am going to assume that you don't always have a disk in the drive when you start Linux, but I can stop you having to type 'modprobe imm' before you mount the disk. To do this, put 'modprobe imm' on a line at the bottom of the file /sbin/init.d/boot.local .
