I bought 6.2 over the weekend and encountered a problem. I actually also saw this problem with 6.1 but never found a solution so gave up. I'm currently running 6.0 using the 2.0.36 kernel without any problems and is what I fell back on this weekend when installing 6.2 didn't work. Ok first off, system details: Pentium 100 96MB RAM Adaptec AHA-294X SCSI host adapter (Narrow Controller) 1 SCSI Segate 4.2G disk (I've been using this disk forever and never had a problem) 1 SCSI CDROM Toshiba XM-5401TA (I've had this thing for 5 years, again never a problem) The problem: Basically what happens is that at different parts of the install I start getting SCSI timeouts and bus resets that never recover. This happened with 6.1 but I was never sure what was going on because the error message was very vague. With 6.2 the error message is pretty clear (sorry don't have a copy of it), a SCSI timeout happens and it attempts to reset the bus, after a short amount of time a message is displayed that the bus is probably hung and won't be able to recover. This happens at different places during the install. Usually whenever I'm doing a whole lot of disk activity (ie formatting partitions or mounting filesystems). If I can make it past the partitioning stage then it usually dies while copying files over. Does anyone have any suggestions? My initial thinking with 6.1 was the kernel and was hoping that the problem had been corrected with the updated kernel in 6.2. I hate to have to break down and get a new machine since this one has been so good to me.
