I'd swear that anyone who buys a distro and does not mess with it probably would never have many crashes, if any at all...My server has never been down for anything other than kernel updates, or drunken/tired mistakes :-).
I agree that some parts are stable, but the OpenGL support for nVidia chips on SMP machines is _far_ from being good. Having enabled the 3D option during SuSE 7.1 installation my machine crashed at least 3 times the same day. I had to disable the 3D support and I will not enable it until nVidia states their drivers don't crash on SMP machines. The following is from their latest README: : - OpenGL on SMP machines : With this release, OpenGL and X on SMP machines is much more : stable. However, there are still some intermittant failures, : especially when using 2.4.x kernels. I'm rather thinking about buying some other graphics card than experimenting with nVidia's SW on a production machine. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
