I just recently downloaded Leo Laporte video podcast. I would like to play it. When I click on it, it states that Xine does not have the proper codec. The movie is suppose to be coded 624 codec, which is my understanding mpeg4. I have suse 10.0, amd 64 bit version, xined loaded. Do you know what else needs to be loaded? Do I have to run the 32 bit version? If so how do I do it? -- Joseph Loo jloo@acm.org

I suspect you need the proper codec (mp4a ?). Check on www.xinehq.com or www.mplayerhq.hu -- Marshall Lake -- mlake@mlake.net -- http://mlake.net

Works fine here. I downloaded a few and they showed up just fine in mplayer after double-clicking. Make sure you have all the suggested codecs downloaded. HTH!! -- kai www.perfectreign.com linux - genuine windows replacement part
Is is part of the DVD or did you have to compile it? Is it the 32 bit or 64 bit version? Kai Ponte wrote:

mpeg4 can be many things. DivX and xvid, for example The trouble with xine on the 64 bit platform is a pain. As far as I've been able to determine, you need to have the same bit-ness of the codec as the xine GUI. In other words, if you're using a 64 bit GUI (xine-ui, kaffeine, totem etc) then you need the 64 bit codec, and if you have a 32 bit GUI you need the 32 bit codec The bit-ness of libxine apparently doesn't matter. I have no idea why

I agree with you. It seems that the codec needs to match the interface. The problem is to fine the codec and to make sure that you start with the correct xine. In the 64 bit version, both the 32 and 64 bit are loaded on the system. I have no ideal how to access the correct one.

OK, I just saw the link you posted. The extension of the file is .mov which is a strong clue that it's Apple Quicktime. Install the libquicktime package and you should be able to play it. It's available in both 32 and 64 bit formats, choose the one that matches your player By the way, for the codecs, if you have the right version for your player, it shold be able to find it on its own

Many times the 'file' command will correctly parse such content. Safer than relying on an extension. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems AB

That presupposes that you can waste the time and diskspace waiting for bittorrent to download enough of the file header for magic to do its thing Which I couldn't. Damn slow download
I have the libquicktime loaded from suse 10.0 Totem comes back with "There were no decoders found to handle the file stream, you might need to installt he corresponding plugins." XINE comes back with " use an unsupported codec" Video Cocec: Advance Video coding (H264) avc1. It seems these plugins are not available/ Anders Johansson wrote:

Reinstall the xine-lib with rpm from http://packman.links2linux.de/ ( http://www.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories ) Try VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ SVN or mplayer http://www.mplayerhq.hu/ CVS. Richard
