I just chucked my antique 486 for a brand new computer with lots of fancy stuff. Have been able to get everything to work in SuSE but my Creative Sound Blaster AWE64. Compiled from MENUCONFIG and chose not to modularize sound so that I could enter the parameters. Pretty sure that I got all the latter correct. On bootup 'sound initialization successful' (or something positive like that) is reported. Yet, so far, nary a peep. I would dearly appreciate any suggestions. I am very disappointed not to be able to see what audio CDs sound like with my new setup. To my knowledge you MUST compile sound as a module. It's always worked great for me. Compile sound as a module and set up isapnp, works like a charm. bob gordon wrote:

Michael, Could you do me a huge favor and e-mail me a copy of your isapnp.conf? Have already had a hasty go at it, and it didn't work. I want to listen to some music, not to stay up all night fiddling with this thing! Hia Gordon, Heh, well umm take this page I give the url for, copy the isapnp.conf to a new file wherever open your exisiting isapnp.conf and add your cards IDs to the url's one..then your set.. <A HREF="http://cqi.com/~humbubba/linux/AWE-kernhelp.txt</A">http://cqi.com/~humbubba/linux/AWE-kernhelp.txt</A> have fun. OSS sound drivers do not work on all systems. Best to have compiled sound support yourself. Bob, I use the commercial OSS drivers....AWESOME!! I have an AWE-64 as well, "tied" to the Altec Lansing ASC-48 3-ways. These drivers are a module. You'll have to recompile and use the modular option. Then install the OSS drivers. Fred -- Fred A. Miller, Systems Administrator Cornell Univ.
