Hi, I realise this topic comes up quite a lot, but has anyone had any success installing any recent version of Gnucash on SuSE 6.4? I've tried various different versions, rpm and source, with different verisons of guile, but I always get errors. Check the mirror ftp sites of Gnucash as I remember seeing RPM and SRPM for Suse 6.4 I am using 1.41.1 version of Gnucash downloaded as srpm -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net 100% MS FREE Absolutely no component of Microsoft was used in the generation or posting of this e-mail. Hi Tabana, Since KDE is just a layer over the X Windowing System (a.k.a. X, X Window, X11), any X-Window app will run under KDE, so long as the correct libraries are there. I don't know anything about Gnucast, but you will probably need GTK+ and GNOME-libs (which come with SuSE 6.x), however you don't need to be in GNOME to run it. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. I've recently downloaded gnucash-1.4.1-1.i386.rpm, installed it (I had to install a couple of other dependencies) and it works as a charm. Is your problem with dependencies? Regards, Kastus

Well, after yesterday's mail from Togan Muftuoglu, I installed the source rpm of 1.4.1-1 and once I had settled all the library problems, I finally got it to compile. I then solved the slib problem so I could get it to run as well, and it starts perfectly now. (Thanks for all the tips!) The only problem is, it crashes as soon as I click on Import QIF file. It does the same with 1.4.2, so I'm guessing maybe one of the library versions I've used is a bit buggy. Anyone got any ideas? I really need to import QIF files before I can make proper use of it. Which SLIB do I need to get, from where ? I tried to install this RPM which was updated on 11th July, but it will not run ~ I got the idea that maybe it choked on slibs Please advise which were the 'couple of dependencies' that you installed .. . . you give me courage to try again :) Thanks Richard Aegina, Greece _________________ ____________ sent on Linux ____________ This Email is 100% Virus Free! I've grabbed slib 2.4 from http://swissnet.ai.mit.edu/~jaffer/SLIB.html

The only thing I din't find on SuSE was g-wrap, I've taken version 0.9.4-1 from Mandrake, found through rufus.w3.org.
Thanks

You can also get SuSE RPM's from gnucash.org. * kastus (kastus@tsoft.com) [000720 06:21]:

I recently installed the SUSE beta for PowerPC on a PowerMac 7600/132, 48 MB
of RAM. It works great and the things I wanted to compile did so with no
problems. My only sticking point is that I haven't been able to set up my
swap partition.
Here's what I tried:
1) Before the initial install, I partitioned the disk, setting up a 100 Meg
unallocated space for swap and a 1.4 Gig space for root.
2) In the install/yast, I formatted and mounted the root drive at /. There
wasn't an option to format the swap partition for swap nor an appropriate
mount point for it so I went on to the next steps.
3) After install, a `df` command displayed only the root partition, not any
swap (which I'd guessed would happen).
4) I read through some online info and some man pages and performed a:
`mkswap -c /dev/sdb7`
which seemed to format the drive correctly.
5) I performed a:
`swapon /dev/sdb7`
which I thought would mount the swap partition but a `df` still did not show
it.
6) I added a line to /etc/fstab like the following:
/dev/sdb7 swap swap defaults 0 0
7) I rebooted and one of the startup lines mentioned something about
"mounting swap partitions." (It goes by really fast)
8) I again tried a `df` and there wasn't a swap partition showing. I then
tried a `mount -a` followed by a `df` but still no swap partition.
I must be overlooking something. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
