On my SuSE 9.1 box, I used to be able to print using my Epson C46 printer, = using the driver of the C42UX. Now, for some reason, it doesn't work anymore. When I try te configure the = printer using YAST, I get the error message after the printer is recognized= by Yast and the driver of C42UX is chosen and then a test print made. The = error message is: "An error occurred while communicating with the CUPS server while saving qu= eue y2test. cups(File)DoRequest error: client-error-not-authorized." Any suggestions in solving this? -- Frits Wüthrich

What does "Now" mean? I cannot guess what you have done until "Now". Do you still use Suse Linux 9.1 or did you do any update or what did you change?
When I try te configure the printer using YAST, I get the error message after the printer is recognized by Yast and the driver of C42UX is chosen and then a test print made. The error message is: "An error occurred while communicating with the CUPS server while saving queue y2test. cups(File)DoRequest error: client-error-not-authorized."
When you run YaST as root on localhost, there is no need for any of the "lppasswd" stuff which is described here http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2003/09/jsmeix_print-einrichten-90.html I assume you may have set something special in your cupsd.conf. View the CUPS error_log and use for example grep -v ^# /etc/cups/cupsd.conf | grep -v '^$' to list only the active settings in cupsd.conf. See the "CUPS Software Administrators Manual" about the meaning of the various settings in cupsd.conf. Alternatively you may have specified a remote CUPS server in /etc/cups/client.conf or via the CUPS_SERVER environment variable. In this case the remote CUPS server would be used and this server would by default deny remote admin access. Is this printer a locally connected printer or a network printer?
Whenever I have difficulty configuring a printer, I normally bypass YaST and
go to CUPS.
http://localhost:631
before you can use CUPS directly to manage your printers, you need to use
the lppasswd command to set up passwords.
Note that I agree with what Johannes says.
