Hello! Is there a way to get rid of the udev system? I don't need "a userspace application for populating /dev dynamically with only entries for devices actually present". I want /dev to bear the devices statically: it is a server and it must not do anything if somebody plugs anything on it. And I w3ant to make my own devices with mknod and wish that they won't be forgotten if I reboot the machine... luciano. -- /"\ /Via A. There is still a devs package, which is mounted "below" the udevfs. If you look at the filesystem from the rescue system you can see it. At least it was there some time ago. But I don't know how to disable udev; it is started by the kernel, I suppose, so perhaps you have to give some parameter to the kernel or recompile it. Perhaps removing package "udev" would do it. You could try on a test machine. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
