[S.u.S.E. Linux] KDE Beta 4 and SuSU 5.2

A few weeks back I was turned off to upgrading my KDE 3 to KDE 4 after
hearing numerous nightmares and problems. Now after numerous hangs,
etc.. using beta 3, I'm thinking beta 4 again.
Has anyone painlessly managed to upgrade beta 3 to beta 4, and if so,
can you detail how it was done?

I installed KDE beta 4 on my system (5.1), with no real problem, simply by using rpm, i.e. rpm -U k*.rpm Now, my problem is that I can't get KDE to start from the console using "startkde". When I try, it says it can't connect to an Xserver. I'm sure that there is something simple that I am missing here, but I would appreciate any assistance. Thanks. Lawrence Sayre wrote:

Lawrence, For the most part It was a breeze to upgrade for me. I just downloaded it and ran YAST. Selected "Choose/Install packages | Install packages", hit enter on "Source: (none)", selected "Directory" and went to the place where I downloaded the rpm and installed. I love the KDE. I am convinced that it is an important part of God's design for the future of Mankind. {;-) Steve Lawrence Sayre wrote:

Alternatively, you may use 'rpm' from the command line. C. J. Tan On Wed, 17 Jun 1998, Steven T. Hatton wrote:
