[opensuse] Fwd: [Mw] Gmail accounts
This from the amateur (ham radio) microwave list, for your information. (Previous message) Folks It appears that the GMAIL server is not accepting microwave list mail when you are the originator of the message. I will have my ISP look into it. If you have a xxx@gmail.com address, you might not be getting your own messages back through the list, and in some cases it might not even get to the list. According to Google, the Gmail system has a "feature" which automatically filters out from you inbox messages which you have sent to any email list. It apparently throws them away. Google tells you that they are "still there" in your "sent folder". Personally, I find this amazingly poor design, but that is what I have learned. Folks with Gmail accounts.
According to Google, the Gmail system has a "feature" which automatically filters out from you inbox messages which you have sent to any email list. It apparently throws them away. Google tells you that they are "still there" in your "sent folder". Personally, I find this amazingly poor design, but that is what I have learned.

I believe that this "feature" of gmail has been known for quite some time. BC -- Sound that shatters silence is called noise. Sound that enhances silence is called music. Ah, so he has been 'spamming' this all over the place :-) . I responded to it in the ubuntu list. BC -- Sound that shatters silence is called noise. Sound that enhances silence is called music. Mmmm he's probably just trying to be helpful. It seems like every week someone new "discovers" that GMail does stupid stuff on mailing lists, and then shotguns the discovery out to the rest of us :-) C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

As others have said, its a feature, not a bug. If you want your mails inline, and you have a filter to put all your opensuse mail in a specific folder(Label) then just add another filter
From contains your gmail address to contains opensuse@opensuse.org Apply Label (your list label).
So for me this filter is set up as Matches: from:(jsamyth@gmail.com) to:(opensuse@opensuse.org) Do this: Apply label "SUSE" So threads look complete. -- _____________________________________ At one time I had a Real Sig. OR: use another smtp account with your gmail address. Unfortunately, none of the smtp servers I use accepts any "from" address that is not theirs - except precisely gmail. Ah! Or avoid heroic measures and put in the filter. Its worked for me for years. Not goog enough. It is not proof that the email got to the list. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Or host your own server, but on dynamic addresses that brings a host of other problems. Of course, with postfix you can designate the smtp based on destination address :^). I do not know whether opensuse.org accepts list mail from dynamic addresses. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It did, I haven't tried recently. The spam score (SA) went up, and with another broken rule or two you were out. I mean, sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not. And often failed silently. I did have postfix rules to choose server depending on the to address time ago. If it was to the list, I sent direct. Elsewhere, relay. Something llike that. Failure rate increased with the years, and the exception table became a nuisance to maintain. Now I always relay, but I have postfix choosing smtp server based on the from address instead, precissely because no one (ISPs here) accepts to send email with a different adress. So, I have to use gmail to send with my opensuse alias, for example. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
