No, this will not work (it's on our todo).
After starting xconfig, choose the very first menu item ("Sprache der Kernel Konfiguration"). Choose english. Now leave the program ("speichern"), and on the next start it will come up in english. Switching languages on the fly is not yet there.
But I really wonder why you get the german language in the first place. Do you have by any chance the german edition? On the international edition the default language for kernel configuration is english.

I chose SuSE when in the store (over other distributions) because I thought it would help me learn some geek German. But there is so much free documentation on the CDs, and my hard disk is so small, that I haven't even got room to install all of the English documentation. So not much chance of a job at SuSE for me :-( Sax didn't set up my SVGA server correctly anyway (I have suse 5.3, so an early version of sax) so I opted to combine its output with some hand tinkering. Didn't see SaX screens enough to absorb much German. dproc -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>

We use english language only on our internal mailing lists, as we have several non-german people on staff ;)

yes, sax is a bit different... (there was a thread some time ago) but this was "make xconfig" as I understood. I didnŽt find a menue that allows another language on a Kernel setup... till wondering... Juergen

This is not yet available in the standard kernels. We are working on it; there are several other translations available already.
still wondering...

Yes, several people now reported that to me. I reported it to the respective maintainers. I consider this to be a bigbug.
