Pick one. I live in the midwest (USA), so I tried pretty much all of the
USA sites. Most were, as you indicated, out of date, i.e. didn't have 6.3
or updates. I did also try some overseas sites. Sorry, it was a couple of
weeks ago, so I don't recall which did and which didn't have the 6.3
updates... there _were_ some other than ftp.suse.com, and the point is that
the problem I described was persistent across any of those sites, w/ an
unmodified SuSE install. And it rankled that my email to ftpadmin@suse.com
was apparently ignored.

Alrighty, this seems somewhat unlikely, since I can ftp from other sites, but is it possible that my freesco firewall/router is blocking the connection? If so, any ideas on how to fix it and why it is a problem w/ just a relatively few sites? here is a snippet of the return from ncftp w/ the -D (debug) option on
