Hi, Everytime when I visit a site that has java applets on it using any browser, X crash. When I start the oracle installer which is a java applet, X crash. I have though of uninstalling all java stuff, but dont have a clue how to do this. Grafix driver: "nv" and "nvidia" (tested both) Distro: Suse 9.2 Tried both KDE(3.3.2) and gnome(2.6) Anyone any ideas? Hi Pieter, First, a few questions: 1. When did this problem first appear and what were you doing at the time? 2. Did the Oracle Installer a) automatically install it's own Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or b) were you given the option to use an already installed JRE? If b), did you install the Oracle-supplied JRE or use your existing one? Second, it'd be a good idea to verify what Java packages have been installed on your system by rpm: (In KDE) SuSE Menu -> System -> YaST -> Root Password -> Software -> Install and Remove Software In the Install and Remove Software module: -> Filter: select Package Groups -> expand "Development" in the left panel -> expand "Languages" in the left panel -> select "Java" in the left panel In the right panel, the installed Java packages will have a check-mark in the box next to them. You can right-click on any of the packages and select to Keep, Delete or Update etc. according to your needs. If you're not developing software with Java, you really only want the JRE (runtime environment) and browser plug-in packages installed. You should be able to safely remove the others. -> Click "Accept" and -- barring any dependency issues -- YaST will process your changes. Let me know the answers to questions 1 & 2, above, then work on verifying/cleaning up your Java environment with YaST. regards, - Carl

I had a similar problem and the problem was due to some X font issues. Does running xfontsel also crash your X server? If it does, then the problem is probably the same as what I had.
