Hello all, I was wondering if anybody here has had the opportunity of syncing a iPhone on a openSUSE system? Preferably the 10.3 release. Got mine today, it recognizes the device as a camera. F-Spot downloads images. But I haven't tried to go any farther yet. Any caveats, workarounds, and general tips or tricks. Cheers. Thomas R. The iPhone is still not available here in Sweden. They just went on sale in Britain and Germany last week. So I can't help. I did get to play with one in Chicago at the Apple store. They are seductive. I am very interested in your iPhone experiences. Don't you need a Windows or OS-X computer to enable the iPhone? Keep us (me) posted on what you find. Having said this, I am looking at a Nokia N-810. Any phone with a busybox shell and vi just can't be all that bad. And a Linux-based open source SDK to boot. -- Roger Oberholtze OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O. I have the N800, and you couldn't pay me to part with it. It is the best little palmtop computer I've ever had. Keep in mind, it is not a mobile phone. It is a palmtop computer running on a Debian derivative. Nokia calls it an Internet Tablet. You can run Skype, Gizmo and the native VoIP client to make calls. It connects via WiFi or you can also use a BlueTooth connection to your mobile phone for internet connectivity. I suspect we'll see greater Linux-side development for the iPhone after Apple finally releases their SDK which is due out, I believe, in February. Until that time, they want you to use the device the way THEY say. That means using OSX or on Windows, using Outlook. It will be interesting to see if someone out there develops an Evolution plugin. -- ---Bryen--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The Nokia N-810 has EDS (Evolution Data Server). Just another reason I want one. I was at the Helsinki airport last week and hoped I could get one. But it is not even out in Finland yet. See www.maemo.org for the SDK. Too bad the only phone part is Skype. No GSM/G3 phone. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O. Just today, I succeeded in producing a custom ringtone for my iPhone utilizing nothing but open source binaries. No need for commercial applications! Right now, I am using "Grey Street" by the Dave Matthews Band as my ringtone. Sweet!!! I will take note of the process and issue a howto on my website in the coming weeks. Cheers. Thomas

That would be of interest to me, please do follow through on that. Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
