Sound problems (SuSE 9) [SOLVED]
A tip for people who have sound problems after installing SuSE 9, and who have been told by more experienced people in [SLE] to login as root and to run alsaconfig: NOTE, the suggestion does NOT mean for you to open a console from KDE or GNOME and then "su - root". I tried that (because that's how I do almost all other "root" activity). When I ran alsaconfig from that environment (even though I had tried to find and close any program that might wish to use alsa...) it hung. When I closed down the gui(s) and logged in as root from text-only terminal, alsaconf ran properly and produced a test sound. When I logged back in as myself, running KDE, I was getting SOUND from my CDs again. Woohoo!! /kevin (listening to Beethoven's Eroica, finally)
